Building a Robust Support System

As you embark on your higher education journey, it's important to realize that you're not alone. Support is at your fingertips, ready to help you navigate through your academic and personal life successfully.

Identifying Your Support Systems

There are people on your personal and educational journey that may be a support system for you as you navigate your degree program.

1. Dedicated Advisors: Here at DeVry, we recognize the importance of genuine, authentic connections, which is why your personalized support team will be by your side throughout your academic journey. You’ll be assigned a dedicated Student Support Advisor as well as a Career Advisor, both of whom will get to know your unique story and guide you every step of the way. We’re here when you need us.

2. Classmates: Your fellow students are navigating the same path as you, making them a valuable resource for collaboration, study groups, and moral support.

3. Friends and Family: Never underestimate the power of emotional support. Friends and family who understand your goals can offer encouragement, a listening ear, and a comforting shoulder during stressful times.

4. Employer Support: Your employer may be a great resource for support. Your growth equals their growth! According to the Harvard Business Review, education programs were influential in a companies’ ability to achieve organizational goals, including decreased turnover and increased customer satisfaction, employee engagement and productivity, and profit. While many organizations offer education benefits, fewer than 5% of employees take advantage of these programs. Talk to your employer today to see what benefits are available to you.

Connecting with Your Support Systems

Now that we've identified these support systems, the question is, how do you effectively connect with them? Here are some strategies:

1. Regular Meetings: Schedule regular meetings with your advisors. It keeps you updated about your academic progress and helps identify any potential issues early.

2. Open Communication: Be open and honest with your advisors, colleagues, friends, and family about your struggles and victories. It creates a supportive environment where everyone is on the same page.

3. Active Participation: Engage actively in class and group activities. It's an excellent way to build relationships with your classmates.

Thanks to DeVry, I am using my degree to propel myself forward in my career path. You can do it, it's NEVER too late to earn a degree!! Don't let excuses stand in your way of achieving your goals. I would recommend DeVry through and through as I am able to go on with my busy life and attend school on MY TIME. I would not have been able to achieve my degree without DeVry's program and I'm incredibly thankful - now on to the Bachelor's!
