Frequently asked questions

What are undergraduate degrees?

Undergraduate degrees and certificates are advanced academic programs you can pursue in college or university. An undergraduate program can be a certificate program, associate degree, or bachelor's degree:

• Undergraduate certificate: This type of program helps you gain foundational career skills in a relatively short amount of time.
• Associate degree: This degree program is shorter than a bachelor’s degree but more in-depth than a certificate. You can learn career-ready skills and knowledge in a specific field that applies to your goals.
• Bachelor’s degree: You’ll study more specialized knowledge in a bachelor’s program, with more time to go deeper into your field. In many cases, this type of degree unlocks higher-paying career opportunities.4

Can I get an undergraduate degree online?

Absolutely. All of our undergraduate degree programs here at DeVry can be completed online, and you’ll have access to 24/7 virtual tutoring, a vast e-library, and digital textbooks right at your fingertips.

Are online undergraduate degrees respected?

Today’s employers recognize that busy, working adults need flexible solutions to pursue their education and grow their skills. At DeVry, our online courses teach the same curriculum as our on-campus classes.5 No matter how you choose to attend class, you can be confident you’re earning your degree or certificate from an accredited university with programs designed to help you build skills employers value.

What is an undergraduate degree versus graduate degree?

An undergraduate program, such as an associate or bachelor’s, can be earned after graduating high school or earning a GED. Undergraduate degrees allow you to learn foundational knowledge in a chosen field, along with general education courses that help you develop critical thinking, communication, and problem-solving skills.

A graduate degree, like a master’s, is earned after completing an undergraduate degree, and its curriculum will go deeper into a specific topic, often with a bigger emphasis on developing specialized skills and how you can apply them professionally. Graduate degrees can also help you stand out as a candidate as you prepare to pursue higher-level leadership roles or specialized senior positions.

How long is an undergraduate degree?

Depending on the program you choose and the schedule you follow, the time it takes to complete an undergraduate degree can vary. At DeVry, many of our programs offer accelerated paths that can shorten your journey. For example, you may be able to earn some certificates in as little as 8 months or a bachelor’s degree in as little as 2 years and 8 months when you choose an accelerated schedule.6

1At the time of application to the next credential level, an evaluation of qualifying transfer credit occurs, and the most beneficial outcome is applied. Future programmatic changes could impact the application of credits to a future program at DeVry. Refer to the academic catalog for details.
